Kids punching bags are great for exercise, self defence, development and to build strength.
Generally first starting out you would teach technique first rather than power, so a light bag maybe adequate
for learning punching, movement and stance etc.

Its important for the child to be taught correctly from the start, so becoming a member of a boxing club or be taught by someone with adequate supervision so injury or mistakes do not occur is paramount.

It is recommended to protect you shins with Muay thai shin guards. These are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, colours and the best are made from durable leather & good quality velcro support straps

Bruising or even more serious injuries can occur when not using shin guards during heavy sparring.

When light sparring and training methods are being used, its good to practise your technique and train in real life situations kicking, punching the pads and bag work, where many students prefer not to use shin guards for general martial arts conditioning.

This is the same in many disciplines; where in boxing large padded gloves are used to avoid injury to wrist and hands while training

on the heavy bag and during light sparring. In muay thai kickboxing, Thai kickboxing, Thai Boxing and martial art training the concepts of shin guard protection are similar to avoid injury. Instep guards are also used and can help with protection.

They can be used for kickboxing gloves, thai boxing gloves or just normal boxing gloves on the punching bag, pads or sparring.  These start from 8 oz and ranging all the way up to 20 oz plus.

A heavier glove will offer more padding for your hands while training for example on the heavy punch bag.

You will also be training your arms and hands with a heavier weight, so when it’s time to step into the ring a normal pair of boxing gloves will seem extremely light. For adults, a 16 oz pair usually provides the best for sparring.

Not all punching bag gloves are made with the same padding. For example, Cleto Reyes boxing gloves span the weight differently, which offers a firmer punch but less protection for your hands. So while many professionals love to use them in the ring and while training, they may not be the best choice for casual training or sparring for fitness purposes.

Muay Thai shorts are much shorter than boxing shorts in length and are designed wide to allow free movement for kicks and knees etc.

Normal boxing shorts will restrict a Muay Thai boxer in movement of kicks in the range of low kicks, middle kicks and high kicks.

Muay thai shorts come in nylon, satin and polyester. The nylon range are lower in quality compared to satin, which are the best quality and are most popular among many fighters. Polyester made shorts are about the same quality as the ones made of satin, only, they weigh lighter.

Cardiovascular conditioning is built up together with working your shoulders, back and arms. Starting with two minute rounds increasing to three to five will greatly improve fitness and stamina and get your heart pumping.

Building power and developing technique on the heavy bag, will better prepare you to respond when required in the boxing ring or on the street.

A warm up of shadow boxing followed by exercises is recommended before starting on the heavy bag. Start light to warm up correctly. Gloves and hand wraps are really important to avoid injury. Using the bag could result in injury to hands, wrists, and elbows.
