Hanging boxing punch bags are usually hung by boxing chains or boxing punch bag hooks. Also they can be hung on heavy bag stands.

They come in various sizes, from 3FT to 6FT and made of different materials. These can vary from vinyl to tougher leather and then the very durable cow hide which will take extreme punishment.

The tougher bags will not rip that easily and will last a lot longer. Weights vary from 20lb right up to the heavy 100lb. For example a male 170 lb male who punches medium hard should select a 60 or 70lb. bag. Harder hitters might want to choose a 100lb. Light hitters who are interested in developing speed should choice a lighter bag starting at 20lb.

The hanging punching bag will develop strength, stamina together with timing and coordination with the swaying bag, this is also good for footwork. Body conditioning will also be improved.

The bag should sway freely, not too much and not too little. Small sway movement will be hard to hit and will not absorb the impact of the punch, this can cause damage to hands and muscles if the correct gloves are not worn. Too much sway will cause too much movement causing timing issues and the bag will be difficult to hit.
